Het oeuvre van David Maljkovic richt zich op de artistieke erfenis van het modernisme, zijn eigen werk en kunst in het algemeen. Maljkovic onderzoekt vaak het verleden om zich de toekomst voor te stellen. Omwille van de vooruitgang, herevalueert hij zijn werk regelmatig en kent hij er telkens een nieuwe betekenis aan toe.
