Itamar Gilboa

Itamar Gilboa (1973)

Woont in Amsterdam. Werkt in Amsterdam.

Itamar Gilboa has always been inspired by the power of numbers and the influence of science. His works, often reflecting upon himself and his personal experiences living in Israel as well as in the Netherlands, are the result of thorough research and data collection. The body of work resulting from this research-based approach is consistent yet diverse. Gilboa's styles and aesthetics are wide-ranging, working in mediums including sculpture, video, drawing and painting. Over the past decade Gilboa has created large scale projects that evolve around his own identity. Most recently Gilboa created a sculpture installation of over 8000 stark white sculptures. Taking his own consumption as a starting point Itamar Gilboa decided to raise awareness on individual consumption choices, global waste, overconsumption and hunger with his Food Chain Project. The project focused on food itself and how we consume it. By exposing the scale and the volume of the consumed mass of one individual, Gilboa gave a powerful perspective on eating habits and food consumption behavior. This was reinforced by the experience of viewing the installation of white sculptures in the context of the visual arts. Food Chain Project was shown in Nieuw Dakota. The Project is collected by LAM Lisse Art Museum and in parts by ING Bank Art Collection and AkzoNobel Art Foundation.

Freundenvonfreunden
Itamar Gilboa’s career is one of the extremes. His dog let him choose to live in Amsterdam over London, and New York City. Now, more than ten years later, the Israeli born visual artist still resides in Amsterdam. The Dutch capital proves to be a productive hometown.
