GIANNINA URMENETA OTTIKER (Lima, 1966) toont personages, stillevens en landschappen die haast zonder uitzondering baden in mysterie. De fotograaf is gebiologeerd door een specifieke duisternis. Haar beelden roepen een dwingende stilte op en gaan op zoek naar een even dubbelzinnig als fragiel evenwicht tussen helderheid en obscuriteit. Tegelijk voert ze een onderzoek naar de subtiliteiten van textuur en kleur, en ze sleurt de toeschouwer mee in een wereld tussen fictie en werkelijkheid.

Giannina Urmeneta Ottiker is afkomstig uit Peru, en studeerde fotografie en schilderkunst in Lima, Barcelona en Gent. Het was ook in die laatste stad dat ze haar artistieke carrière begon als fotograaf. Sindsdien nam Ottiker deel aan een reeks groepstentoonstellingen in binnen- en buitenland, en kreeg de fotograaf in Gent een solotentoonstelling bij Cecilia Jaime Gallery. Twee jaar geleden werd ze eveneens geselecteerd voor de expo Unknown Masterpieces in Cultuurcentrum Scharpoord in Knokke-Heist.

De solotentoonstelling van Giannina Urmeneta Ottiker heet Imprints, daarin wisselt ze kleinere foto’s van lichaamshoudingen af met grote landschapsfoto's. De zwartwitbeelden ogen nostalgische en zijn opzettelijk gelaagd, gekrast en schijnbaar beschadigd, alsof het echo’s zijn van veranderde of gefragmenteerde herinneringen waarop de tijd zijn stempel op heeft gedrukt.

Giannina Urmeneta Ottiker is afkomstig uit Peru, en studeerde fotografie en schilderkunst in Lima, Barcelona en Gent. Het was ook in die laatste stad dat ze haar artistieke carrière begon als fotograaf. Sindsdien nam Ottiker deel aan een reeks groepstentoonstellingen in binnen- en buitenland, en kreeg de fotograaf in Gent een solotentoonstelling bij Cecilia Jaime Gallery. Twee jaar geleden werd ze eveneens geselecteerd voor de expo Unknown Masterpieces in Cultuurcentrum Scharpoord in Knokke-Heist. Het werk van Urmeneta Ottiker is onderdeel van verschillende internationale collecties, waaronder; SMAK (Gent, Belgium), House of Flanders (New York, USA), Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris (France), Province East Flanders (Gent, Belgium), Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, cultura (Spain), Usine C (Montreal, Canada) en meer. Ze bracht in 2010 het boek 'Un-There'uit en werd genomineerd voor de Tokyo international photo awards in 2020. Verder won ze The List, Photoshelter, Fine art photographers en was ze genomineerd voor de Urbanautica awards.
