Marisa Rappard onderzoekt in haar tekeningen en installaties de sociale impact van een leven dat steeds digitaler wordt. Door te tekenen verkent ze associatief wat het betekent om mens te zijn in deze veranderlijke wereld, waarin technologie een steeds grotere plaats inneemt. Ze verbeeldt zowel transcendente dromen van een digitale hemel waar de mens voor eeuwig bewaard kan blijven, als de dagelijkse realiteit, waarin een overvloed aan echte en nep-informatie het moeilijk maakt om de waarheid te onderscheiden, en contact steeds meer via een scherm verloopt, met vervreemding en polarisatie tot gevolg.
Waar het werk gaat over hoe mensen zich verhouden tot het digitale, is haar werkwijze expliciet analoog. Het digitale verloopt altijd via een technologisch medium, terwijl er weinig directer is dan de handeling van het tekenen. Door met de hand lijnen te trekken op een kwetsbaar medium als papier, maakt ze tastbaar hoe technologie de menselijke staat van zijn beïnvloedt.
Het vaak omvangrijke formaat van haar werk maakt fysiek tastbaar hoe onmogelijk het kan lijken om grip te krijgen op de veelheid aan feiten waarmee we dagelijks worden geconfronteerd. Binnen het platte vlak van de tekening speelt Rappard een verwarrend spel met perspectief en ruimtelijkheid. Dit spel kan zich ook buiten het papier voortzetten en de ruimte binnengaan in geconstrueerde ruimtelijke tekeningen. Het gebruik van harde onderbrekingen, door oppervlakken scherp te laten botsen, is voor Rappard een middel om gelijktijdigheid op te roepen: verschillende realiteiten en perspectieven bestaan naast elkaar binnen één werk.

Marktpositie
Sinds ze een master behaalde aan het Post st. Joost in Breda was haar werk veelvuldig te zien. In 2016 had ze een solotentoonstelling in het Centraal Museum in Utrecht, en in 2019 in het Drawing Centre in Diepenheim. In 2022 maakte ze in opdracht van de Nederlandse ambassade in Parijs een wandvullende muurtekening tijdens de beurs voor hedendaags tekenen Drawing Now. Centraal Museum heeft meerdere van haar werken in de collectie. Ook is haar werk opgenomen in de collecties van museum Boijmans van Beuningen, de NOG collectie/Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, UMC Utrecht, het prentenkabinet van de Universiteit Leiden en diverse privé-collecties.
