Nout Bodyn (b. 2000, Mechelen, lives and works in Kluisbergen, Belgium) 's sculptures explore the dialogue between the internal and external worlds, reflecting his perception of the surrounding environment as a projection of his inner self. Central to his practice is the relationship between the infinity of inner space and the finiteness of physical form. Balancing between abstraction and figuration, Bodyn’s sculptures are characterized by liminal spaces, openings, entrances, and exits. These in-between spaces act as the lungs of his creations, allowing forms to interact with one another and their surroundings. Humor and absurdity emerge in playful and unexpected ways, contributing to a universal, non-verbal language. His work transforms the familiar into the unfamiliar, echoing Freud’s concept of the Unheimliche, or the uncanny. By blurring the boundaries between reality and fiction, his sculptures evoke a subtle psychological tension, inviting feelings of mystery, desire, and unease. Through his use of scale, material, color, and spatial relationships, Bodyn creates an alternative world in which the ordinary becomes strangely unfamiliar.
Nout Bodyn obtained his Master in Visual Arts, Sculpture in 2023 and his Educational Master in Visual Arts in 2024, both from LUCA School of Arts, Ghent, BE.
