Until 20 July, Galerie Caroline O'Breen in Amsterdam presents the exhibition 'On Longing' featuring works by Mandy Franca and Anthony Ngoya. Despite their visual differences, there are clear similarities in their work. Both artists have a multidisciplinary practice in which photography and the everyday play a central role. And both Franca and Ngoya explore how our collective memory shapes our individual and communal identities. Currently, both artists are part of prestigious residency programs in the Netherlands: Franca is a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, while Ngoya is currently at De Ateliers.
Franca earned a bachelor's degree in Fashion from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, followed by a master's in Print from the Royal College of Art in London. In 2022, she received the George Hendrik Breitner Fellowship, and this October, her work will be featured in a group exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum. Her work has previously been shown at Saatchi Gallery and Harlesden High Street in London.
Ngoya studied painting at Ecole nationale supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre in Brussels. His work has been exhibited at KANAL - Centre Pompidou, De Brakke Grond, The Constant Now & S.M.A.K., and Marres.
