Make sure to head to Venlo this weekend, when Galerie Wilms is transforming into a salon for artists, featuring work by more than 65 artists, ranging from established names to emerging talents. Each work is for sale at the friendly price of €350 and all pieces are representative of the artist's work, albeit small in size. They are, after all, amuses!
Amuse originated in 2015 when Paul and Carla Wilms from Galerie Wilms discovered that there were not enough platforms for visual artists. So, they came up with a concept by which small artworks are presented in a salon setting over the course of a weekend. The event focuses on encountering art and the artist. Like the namesake small dish that stimulates the taste buds, this amuse offers an introduction to contemporary art that is likely to leave you wanting more. Amuse is a low-threshold event for anyone looking to get acquainted with the diversity of contemporary art.
When Amuse could not take place due to the pandemic, a digital version was developed in which new amuses are offered throughout the year: www.amuse.art. Now, Amuse is once again being held in the gallery and the showcased works – often unique pieces specially priced for Amuse – are only available for purchase that one weekend.
If you are interested, head to Galerie Wilms in Venlo, where, in addition to work by the artists below, various activities will be organised over the weekend, such as on Saturday at 3:30 pm, when poet Lars den Hertog and musician Pete Polito will be joining forces, and on Sunday at 1 pm, when Manuela Klerkx will be giving a lecture. Manuela is the author of the book Ontroerend goed: van kunst kijken naar kunst kopen about art collecting for beginning and advanced art buyers alike.
