Work by Mathieu Cherkit, on display at Albada Jelgersma Gallery during the Opening of the Gallery Season
What can you see during the weekend, among other things?
-
Albada Jelgersma Gallery is celebrating twice: the gallery opened its doors for the very first time on 2 September 2017. To celebrate, they programmed a group exhibition with a pun in the title incorporating the number five: Quintessence. This term stands for 'the essence of a thing in its purest, most concentrated form' and the eleven artists on show took that into account when they made their selection. Read more.
- In Rutger Brandt Gallery you can see work by New York-based artist Yigal Ozeri, who in this exhibition focuses on the iconic American diner, a complicated symbol for America and the American Dream. Interesting detail: Many of the detailed paintings contain references to the pandemic, which has made achieving the American Dream even more difficult for many. Read more about it here.
- Koch x Bos Gallery presents Historical Fiction, a duo exhibition featuring large, detailed ceramic sculptures by English artist Claire Partington and oil paintings by Scottish artist Lindsey Carr. For this exhibition, Carr was inspired by 17th-century Dutch tulip paintings, which he transformed into contemporary botanical portraits. Partington's sculptures source their roots in classical art, but if you look more closely at their names and the symbolism, you'll find numerous contemporary references and even an activist tinge. - In Gallery Fleur & Wouter, you can discover an exciting duo exhibition by Dodi Espinosa and Carmen Schabracq. Read more about it here.
- Bildhalle is showing the group exhibition Ocean, in which sixteen artists show work with which they reflect, directly or indirectly, on the subject. Read more here.
