Lab 1930. Fotografia contemporanea, Milan (Italy) is pleased to present the latest works by Alessandra Calò and Pietro Bologna.
You will find us at stand n° 42:
"χθόνιος" (Chthonic) is a never-before-exhibited work created by Alessandra Calò in 2023/2024.
Of the 22 images that make up the series, 8 have been selected and printed in oleotype, an ancient printing technique that involves the manual application of oily inks in several steps, making the result unique. Fine art prints on Japanese paper of the entire series are also available
"Ettaro" (Hectare) - and the sub-section "da Ettaro" (from Hectare) - is a work by Pietro Bologna created with Iphone 6 starting in 2017 and still in progress. In addition to the photographic part, the project also includes a video work with original music by the Italian composer Bruno De Franceschi.
The project "Hectare" has been published by the Artphilein Foundation in Lugano (Switzerland) in 2022, with texts by the Italian poet Angelo Lumelli: book signing at the gallery stand on Saturday 21 September at 16.00 with Pietro Bologna.
There will also be a book signing of Lorand Hegyi's book 'Poetic Metaphors and Urban Ethnography', critical essays on the two artists presented at Unseen 2024.
The two works have similarities, even though the artists present different languages.
The first is the interaction between the work and the spectator. Both Alessandra Calò's and Pietro Bologna's works require the active participation of the viewer, as the work takes on different meanings depending on one's imagination and personal experience. Everyone feels and perceives something different in the images of these two artists, both leave open questions that need to be filled in by the viewer.
The second aspect is the mixing of digital and analogue photography - both Calò's 'Chthonic' and Bologna's 'From Hectare' have to be transferred to film before being printed - and the dialogue between the arts: Alessandra Calò is confronted with the technical know-how of an ancient manual printing technique, while in Pietro Bologna's work the artist's handmade iron frames strongly emphasise the sculptural three-dimensionality of these images, which are also enhanced by the different languages (music, video, words and photobook) interwoven in this work.
