This is Ag Galerie's sixth participation at Unseen. For this edition we present the work of three artists who manipulate their work using added layers of paint. Laying paint over photographs began in the 19th century as a way to infuse life and verisimilitude to otherwise plain, black and white photographs. Today artists use this technique in various ways to serve more conceptual purposes. Peyman Hooshmandzadeh decided to paint over black and white photographs of his daughter to pass the time during the lockdown of the pandemic. Parisa Aminolahi has for years engaged in this practice as a way of spending more time with the moments she has passed in the company of her mother who lived in a different country and is the subject of this series. And Ali Zanjani has revealed the thick layer of red marker from the id portraits of military servicemen which was used to cover up their long and forbidden hair styles.
