New Art Section, Art Rotterdam 2020.
My works is ranging from video installations to films, incorporating various technologies and images, photographs, writings, installation and performances. My interests are focusing towards forms of practices and expressions which occurs at the crossroads of contemporary arts, fringe-science, anthropology, architecture, but also the confluence between technology and occultism or whether history of colonialism and modernity.
At the very heart of my practice occurs the fascination and the desire of man for transcendence, his desire to temporarily escape the influence of the body and the real, and thus to reach inaccessible worlds. How can this kind of experience can be shared and communicated? Is language a sufficient tool to report these trips elsewhere, and how can we record the fluctuations of these kind of flux and thoughts ?
In that sense, I am very excited to propospresent with Marian Van Zijll Langhout of the gallery VZL / Contemporary Art, a new body of works that relates together this question of transcendence as one main installation for Art Rotterdam 2020, by showing different aspect of my practice.
By relating the photographic process itself with the concept of projection, Liminality (2017- 2020*) is a series of Photograms made by trying to induce an Out Of Body Experience to the photographic negative itself, or even using the point of view of the drone to explore a modernist architecture from Giuseppe Terragni ( figure of the rationalist architecture Italian movement) in relation to the translation of the poem of Dante, The divine Comedy, with the video From The We Came Outside And We Saw the Stars (2019*), or the brand new sculptural works I am actually developing which is inspired by an investigation made by André Breton regarding what he defined "L'Art Magique" (objects and practices related to magic).
In my effort to capture what might exist outside the boundaries of perception, I am interested in moments when the feelings of reality slip through our hands because these impressions are pushing us aside of any form of control, rendering space unstable by making it lose its apparent texture of reality.
My presentation for Art Rotterdam is an attempt to convey this moments of transcendence to affect the viewer.
