Pieke Bergmans' work is situated at the intersection of sculpture, installation, design, and craft. In her practice, she explores the properties and possibilities of materials such as glass, clay, metal, and plastic. She often starts from existing production processes and looks for moments within them when material behaves differently than expected. By giving space to heat, movement, gravity, and time, forms emerge that develop during the making process and are not fully predetermined.
Bergmans works closely with artisans and technical specialists and precisely manages the production process. At the same time, she leaves room for the inherent dynamics of the material. She intervenes at a specific moment and brings a form that is still in motion to a standstill. What emerges is a captured moment within a constantly changing process. Repetition does not guarantee uniformity: it is precisely small differences and deviations that make each work unique.
Process and object are closely connected in her work. In doing so, Bergmans investigates not only how a form emerges, but also the relationship between control and letting go, between human intention and the independent functioning of matter. The material is not merely a means, but an active factor in the creation of the work.

Pieke Bergmans (1978) studied at St. Joost in Breda, Design Academy Eindhoven, and ArtEZ in Arnhem, and obtained her Master of Arts at the Royal College of Art in London. Since establishing her studios in Amsterdam and Milan in 2007, she has built an international position at the intersection of art, design, and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited and presented internationally, including at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Vitra Design Museum, and 21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo.
Her work is included in international museum and institutional collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Groninger Museum, Centre Pompidou and CNAP in Paris, and MUDAC in Lausanne. Additionally, her work is held in international private and corporate collections. In 2013, Bergmans was named Designer of the Year in Brazil. In 2014, the Noordbrabants Museum presented a retrospective of her work.
