In Spatial Shade — Segment and Arch, Lisette Schumacher takes the brick as the starting point for a new group of glass sculptures. The series draws on the curved brick walls and decorative façade reliefs of the Amsterdamse School, particularly the designs of architects Jo van der Mey, Michel de Klerk and Piet Kramer.
Schumacher translates the form of the arched brick into solid, hand-cast Venetian glass. Through both their form and their making, the sculptures refer to the craftsmanship and attention to material that characterise this architecture.
