The Basil Girl is a well-known folk tale from Turkey (and Morocco), in which a clever girl, using cunning and intelligence, and a basil plant as a symbol of her hidden children, ultimately wins the prince or nobleman she is in love with and marries him. The story revolves around a girl in love who is abandoned by a prince; she gives birth to three children without him knowing, and when he wants to marry someone else, she has the children bring their gifts so that he discovers their mother and restores her honor.
