Ria Wank, born in Cottbus in 1988, has been working with analog photography since 2014.
In addition to working with light and shadow, she develops techniques that specifically control the effect of chemicals on photographic paper. The key factors here are when and how the developer and fixer react and how the result changes over time.
In this way, image compositions grow over several months and only become visible with the final washing and fixing.
Her images are alive and mature, the image surface remains in constant change and grows into a new image over the years.
In her search for organic image carriers, Ria Wank experiments with the growth of plants and roots. She controls and monitors the development processes of plants, similar to her photographic work, and uses root systems to bring surprisingly finely crafted images into the space.
