In her drawings and installations, Marisa Rappard investigates the social impact of a life increasingly digitalizing. Through drawing, she explores associatively what it means to be human in this fluid world, in which technology occupies an ever-increasing place. She depicts both transcendent dreams of a digital heaven, where man can be preserved for eternity, as daily reality, in which an abundance of distorted information makes it had to distinguish the truth, and contact transgresses more and more via a screen, with alienating and polarizing effects.
In reflecting on how people relate to the digital, her working method is explicitly analogous. The digital always goes by proxy of a technological medium, whilst there is little more direct than the act of drawing. Using handdrawn lines on a fragile medium as paper, She makes tangible how technology influences the human sense of self.
The often vast size of her work physically makes palpable how it may seem impossible to get a grip on the multitude of facts we are confronted with on a daily basis. Within the flat surface of the drawing, she plays a confusing game with perspective and spatiality. This play may also continue outside of the paper and enter the room in constructed spatial drawings. The use of harsh breaks, by making surfaces collide sharply, form a visual means of evoking simultaneity: different realities and perspectives coexist within one work.

Position sur le marché
Since she received a masters degree her work has been on display in many places in her home country as well as abroad. In 2016 she had a solo exhibition at Centraal Museum in Utrecht, and in 2019 at the Drawing Center in Diepenheim. In 2022, she was commissioned by the Dutch embassy in Paris to make a wall-filling wall drawing during the Drawing Now fair for contemporary drawing. Centraal Museum has several of her works in its collection. Her work is also included in the collections of museum Boijmans van Beuningen, UMC Utrecht, the NOG collection/Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, and various private collections.
