Rotterdam-based sculptor Jan Eric Visser (1962) has been exploring an ecologically driven aesthetics respectful of earth’s resources and the cycle of nature and life from 1987. Aspiring for an artistic reconciliation between concept, matter and activism his oeuvre challenges our contemporary understanding of matter and existence. Thus, his extensive oeuvre is based on the new proposition of making art without the use of primary resources. This also goes for his outdoor pieces, offering a platform for newly developed recycling materials.
From 24 March – 20 August 2023 Visser’s work will be on show as part of a group exhibition in TENT Rotterdam. From 1 April - 25 June Visser will participate in the group show Through Bone and Marrow at Brutus, curated by Maarten Spruyt.

Groen is het nieuwe zwart: hoe de beeldende-kunstsector worstelt met de klimaattransitie
De Nederlandse kunstenaar Jan Eric Visser (1962) en zijn vrouw wonen en werken in een huis waar alles wordt gerecycled. De boodschappen komen binnen via de voordeur. In de keuken worden die verwerkt tot eten. Na afloop gaan alle verpakkingen naar Vissers atelier op de begane grond. Als kunstwerk gaan ze vervolgens weer via de voordeur naar buiten. Als jongetje, zo vertelt Visser, voelde hij al het alarmerende karakter van het rapport van de Club van Rome Grenzen aan de Groei (1972). „Ik had toen al het idee dat die uitputtingsslag en de vervuiling die wij als mens de aarde toebrachten, heel serieus was. Ik wilde mijn huisvuil niet in die stroom mee laten gaan. Dus sluit ik het op in mijn beelden. Mijn beelden zijn in feite vuilniszakken die zich gedragen als kunst.” Vissers werk wordt in binnen- en buitenland tentoongesteld. Bij alles kijken hij en zijn vrouw hoe ze zo CO2-neutraal mogelijk kunnen werken.
