We are delighted to invite you to our special opening on Saturday, May 30, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Kim van Norren’s first solo exhibition will be opened by Richard Boddeus, Councillor for Culture in Kampen, collector, admirer, and supporter of her work.
Kim van Norren creates paintings in which language and image are closely intertwined. Her texts, drawn from pop songs, poems, speeches, and personal notes, are chosen intuitively: words that resonate with her, linger in her mind, or gain significance at a particular moment in time. Through paint on canvas, she explores how these words can be translated into colour, form, and rhythm, and how a personal experience can simultaneously evoke something universal.
For Van Norren, a painting is not a purely individual expression of emotion, but rather a meeting place between artist and viewer. Familiar phrases gain new meaning within her works, inviting viewers to connect them to their own memories and emotions. In this way, her paintings become at once personal and recognisable — vulnerable, playful, and direct.
