This summer there will be a special large-format retrospective exhibition in Gallery Untitled: 'XXL Art'. In the two rear rooms we have brought together the largest works by various artists we represent: Sander Buijk, Johan Kleinjan, Pai Dekkers, Floris Hovers, Lenny Oosterwijk, Cirque de Pepin, Telmo Pieper, Ingrid Baars, Florian Borstlap & Ko de Cook and Luuk Bode.
With one of Sander Buijk's last works as a huge eye-catcher: Hiccup, balancing on a large orange buoy, the sculpture just fits into the exhibition space. Of course Telmo Pieper should not be missing, the artist is used to working in format. With the artist duo TelmoMiel he creates countless surrealistic murals, which can be found all over the world. His impressive painting Untying Knots measuring 3 by 2 meters comes into its own in the exhibition. We also show works by Cirque de Pepin, Ingrid Baars, Johan Kleinjan, Wandschappen, Dekkers & Co, Florian Borstlap & Ko de Kok, Floris Hovers and Lenny Oosterwijk.
Directly opposite the three-meter-high Telmo painting are two colorful cityscapes by Johan Kleinjan, the result of his work period in China in 2018. On the balconies, Johan discovered the diversity among the residents of the uniform residential towers. On the same wall a completely different, but just as colorful cityscape by Floris Hovers. The artist uses residual wood to create a true color and shape composition in the form of a 3-meter-long skyline. There is another cityscape, although you wouldn't think so at first. Luuk Bode is inspired for his paintings by bicycle rides through Rotterdam. He translates all energies and sounds into a very detailed work, which is both sleek and dynamic.
Pepijn van Nieuwedijk, like Johan Kleinjan, found inspiration in China. He had the 2.5 meter high porcelain vase made in China. In the Netherlands he painted the vase with very detailed figures inspired by 'Delft blue', it is almost a comic strip. Pai Dekkers' blueprint Wakame #1 hangs in the same room. He makes life-size negatives of Dutch algae.
A wind blows through the corn field of Lenny Oosterwijk, who draws his inspiration from nature and creates almost abstract images that calm you down when you look at them. Right next to it is an ode to the outdated ice cream by Florian Borstap and Ko de Kok, the artist duo found inspiration in Dutch snack culture. The very realistic drawing with customized frame is almost indistinguishable from the real thing and immediately brings summer to the gallery.
