The artist's blanket as a child, used from her birth in 1983 until 1995, is embroidered with the 12 most significant routes undergone during this time span
Context of the work The Encounter of the First and Last Particles of Dust:
There are 12 embroidered routes on the surface of the blanket. This number of routes corresponds to the 12 years when the blanket was used. The routes range from very personal trips such as the one to friends or family as to trips probably taken by many other Lebanese in the case of visiting archaeological sites or natural sites.
The routes are retraced according to how they were used and according to how they were made at the time, as well as which roads the artist and her family used to take. They are all retraced on the same map and at the same scale.
The routes are placed freely on the surface on the blanket, interacting with the patterns of the blanket. These routes become abstract patterns, superimposed to the faded patterns of the blanket. They are embroidered by hand using a machine by an embroiderer in Lebanon.
The work's title The Encounter of the First and Last Particles of Dust is the same as all the other works of this series of personal items used at the home of the artist when she was a child, including the carpet (showen at Grey Noise in Dubai) and the curtains (will be presented at AKINCI in October 2020)
