Caroline Mesquita (1989, Brest) woont en werkt in Parijs. Caroline Mesquita onderzoekt de vitaliteit en complexiteit van groepsgedrag in veel van haar sculpturale installaties en platte metalen werken. Grondstof verschaft de vonk die haar verhalende betrokkenheid met noties van religie, belichaming, transformatie, sensualiteit en gezelligheid bezielt. De werken van Mesquita zijn donker, gepatineerd en ruw gestructureerd door een oxidatieproces. Met deze techniek manipuleert Mesquita het metaal als een vorm van schilderen. Wat ooit glimmend, reflecterend en glanzend was, werd gesneden, gemalen, gelast, gesmolten en geoxideerd om de vele elementen binnenin te onthullen; verschuiven in textuur en in toon, mat worden, groen, bruin en roze. Deze materiële transformaties bieden een format voor verhalen vertellen over de menselijke ervaring en de directheid van actie en uitwisseling in relaties.
