Ruta Butkutė – In Motion #1 (2025)
Clay, ashes, wood-fired in anagama kiln
123 × 22 × 22 cm
With In Motion #1 (2025), Ruta Butkutė explores the traces that movement and process leave in matter. The elongated clay form was fired in a traditional Japanese anagama kiln. Through this demanding process, fire and ash inscribed themselves into the surface, creating a rough, layered structure that resists industrial perfection and instead reveals the gesture and intensity of firing.
The sculpture holds the clarity of a line in space, while at the same time carrying a physical memory of movement and energy. It appears not simply as an object, but as a tangible residue of action and time.
