Jackotype, 2017
Material: Photogram of a jackfruit tree (Artocarpus heterophyllus), cyanotype on cotton, clothespins, steel cable, 200 × 300 cm
In Jackotype, Eva‑Fiore Kovacovsky collaborates with a jackfruit tree – a tropical species native to South and Southeast Asia. Using its branches and leaves, she creates a large-scale cyanotype on cotton: a deep blue image developed through sunlight, without a camera.
Shapes suggest foliage, shadows, movement. Nothing is fixed – everything is trace.
The fabric hangs freely from clothespins. It shifts with the space, breathing light and air.
Kovacovsky’s long-standing practice engages with biological processes such as photosynthesis, working with photosensitive materials in direct collaboration with plants. In her work, plants act not just as subjects, but as mediums and co-creators.
In Jackotype, she relinquishes control. The work emerges through exposure, time, and elemental interaction – a fragile yet tangible imprint of the relationship between human and plant.
