From ‘Bestiary’ by Anne Geene & Arjan de Nooy
‘Bestiary’ is a photographic project inspired by the ancient tradition of bestiaries – collections of descriptions of animals, both real and imagined, each paired with a moral lesson.
The artists created around 70 visual chapters that bring together photographs, collages, natural elements, and found materials in a playful and layered reflection on how we give meaning to the world around us.
Geene & De Nooy are known for their inventive approach to photography, blending scientific observation with humor, fiction, and associative thinking. Their collaborative projects often play with the conventions of classification, archiving, and knowledge-making, transforming photography into a tool of curiosity and storytelling.
