How can an authority from a certain anonymity destroy another human being? Why is one life worth more than another? Questions like these underlie a series of double portraits by Bas Geerts, an ongoing series begun in 2023. These are paintings in which the silhouettes of two people are united, superimposed, as a debunking of the disproportionality of their relationship; portraits in which the victim is given a voice, while the ruler is exposed as such.
