Lion Rock is not just any mountain, it's Hong Kong's most famous peak, laden with symbolism and meanings that are evolving over time. Inspired by Hokusai's important woodblock series "Thirty-six Views on Mount Fuji" created in 1830, Romain set out to capture Hong Kong's famous peak in a similar yet contemporary fashion, in order to express the many faces of this legendary mountain top and the lives of the people around it.
The photographer Romain was inspired by Hokusai's iconic series depicting Mount Fuji from multiple perspectives. Similarly, Romain aimed to capture the multifaceted nature of Lion Rock, Hong Kong's most renowned peak, and the lives of the people who live in its shadow. Over time, Lion Rock has accumulated deep symbolic meaning and significance within Hong Kong's culture and identity, which Romain sought to convey through his photographic work.
