The artwork Arne J. by Saminte Ekeland was inspired by the life of the Jewish-Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. As he fled from Denmark to Sweden in 1943, during the Nazi occupation, his architectural work was limited and he found a new path in designing furniture and textile. Nonetheless, he approached his design with the attitude and vision of an architect, and he is remembered as an accomplished furniture designer.
In this artwork, the corner of the building symbolizes a place or situation from which it is hard to escape, but it also gives rise to possibilities and opportunities for one to search within themselves in order to face pain and difficulties. In Arne Jacobsen’s case, you might conclude that misfortune eventually turned into success and his legacy lives on until today.
