For his series Into Time, which the artist has kept developing, Rozendaal uses the medium of lenticular painting, through which the image changes along with the point of view of the observer. In this way, an object can have the same physical properties as digital works: movement, interaction with the viewer, and a seemingly endless number of compositions. The paintings can’t be experienced instantaneously but must be engaged with for a duration of time, much like his digital works. These lenticulars are the outcome of an ongoing experiment, by changing a few variables in every group that is actualised. The potential of each outcome is only to be experienced when the work is produced. The lenticular print is a material with a long history. By choosing a traditional technique as his media, in combination with the digital devices and technologies with which he produces the still images, Rozendaal draws attention to how these mediums of different time periods exist on a continuum of visual culture, rather than disjointed.
