Extracted mirror reflection scene from the 3D simulation video
Displayed on a round LED screen
In Omnishambles, Jaehun Park recreates a day in a room where the ceiling has yet to be waterproofed — a domestic disaster rendered in virtual space. The video unfolds on a circular LED screen, echoing the convex mirror at the heart of Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait (1434). Each object in the scene — its placement, form, colour — is drawn directly from that iconic painting.
But here, Park turns the camera toward the mirror, occupying the very position where van Eyck once reflected himself. In doing so, he points to the digital systems behind the illusion: the unseen hand of simulation.
Rooted in Park’s own experience of a severe water leak in his studio, Omnishambles blends personal vulnerability with historical reference. The work captures a sense of helplessness in the face of cascading failure — a quiet chaos both mundane and monumental.
