One video shows a scenario at a macro level, the other at a micro level. Against the background of a mysterious and ominous soundscape, the storyline unfolds around an aquarium and a seemingly ordinary planter. A sudden, inexplicable and devastating chaotic moment takes over and turns the scene into a sinister disaster. After this disconcerting break, the sequence of events starts again. Unnoticed, the situation is restored to its original state.
'Nature' is not only staged and scaled, but the disasters are also heavily directed, all within a theatre. The video can is regarded as a metaphor for radical events that can completely disrupt one's life. At the same time, the disasters in Earthquakes have a purifying effect: established certainties are swept away and rebuild themselves, again and again.
The installation has been produced in collaboration with Kyoto Art Center and Videobrasil, and with the support of AFK.
