Over the past years Elisabeth Trenkwalder (1961) has made a series of paintings in which she departs from trees seen from below that are silhouetted against the sky. The trees are laid flat, mirrored and doubled to create patterns in which you can recognize overarching shapes and figures. Elisabeth Trenkwalder compares going through a forest to walking in a cathedral, imagining the tree trunks change into the towering columns of a Gothic church.
