In this ongoing project I create photo sculptures by digitally deconstructing my photographs of architectural fragments I encountered in multiple Amsterdam Metro stations. My interest in the metro network as a place arose from a field study where I stepped into random metros to see where they would take me. I found out that, due to the lack of purpose in my journey, the stations I got off caught my attention and became my destinations. A facade of orange tiles surrounding an escalator, blue concrete and tiles as part of a staircase or colourful columns underneath a viaduct: despite their (faded) colours no eye-catchers in their functional surroundings. I use these pieces of infrastructure and change their materiality, scale and surroundings in order to create my own reality in which their functionality dissolves and they become autonomous sculptures. The sculptures are two dimensional photo maquettes, photographed in a way they seem to be three dimensional large size structures.
