The work consists of digital prints, film animations, maps and 3D presentations of virtual landscapes. They are usually in grayscale and with any absence of people, flora and fauna. They are vistas we could ever encounter ourselves. Silence prevails in these empty, desolate landscapes and there is no wind. The light is predominantly absent and seems to be covered in vague fog. In terms of temperature, we detect neither heat nor cold. The senses seem to be reduced to a minimum.
One experiences these landscapes as a walker in the "lonely" nature. You feel yourself absorbed in it as a human being, time and space are almost negligible. Because it is not clear whether it is day or night or precisely that twilight interval. Marcel Wesdorp takes you through his virtual landscape to your own perception and experience. It is an individual journey to the rhythm of your heart and with the slope of the landscape. He takes you to far unknown places. A walk to the infinite, in time and space. You won't even come across the horizon.
In his work, he is the creator and ruler of the landscape. Because he can trace every place with the help of the three-dimensional coordinates x, y and z. The landscape consists of points that are connected by lines. It covers 10 x 10 km and the maximum height difference is 300 meters, both with great precision. With these wanderings he captures his desire by being absorbed in the landscape.
Such a walk in a virtual landscape makes you lose yourself, as long as you want to experience the ultimate freedom of time and space. It requires a certain concentration and becomes an existential experience. There is no end and no beginning, but there is an infinity, a vacuum, in which you encounter yourself again. (Frey Feriyanto)
