Sjoerd Buisman focuses on the natural laws that nature always seems to follow. Observations and inspirations are incorporated in this work. Guided by the tension between abstraction and the (un) recognisability of nature, the works created never lose their relationship with forms that are perceptible in nature. Buisman pushes his living materials in a specific direction, much like natural forces do. He embraces the plant material with a steady hand; a grip that will not let go until all parts are bent to his will and convey his intention.
Sjoerd Buisman (1948, Netherlands) studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam (1965- 1967) and at De Ateliers (1968-1970). Buisman’s work has been exhibited among others, CODA Museum (Apeldoorn), Kröller-Müller Museum Otterlo, Stedelijk Museum Kampen and at the Verbeke Foundation in Kemzeke, Belgium. In 1980 he created the work Phyllotaxis Irrsee for the Mondsee Land Art (1999). His work is included in
various private and corporate collections, including the Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Gemeentemuseum, The Hague; Kröller-Müller Museum, Otterlo and Teylers Museum, Haarlem. Sjoerd Buisman received the A. Roland Holst-Penning for his entire oeuvre.
