Mirjam Hagoort prefers to photograph displaced city landscapes, which serve as a starting point for her paintings, drawings and collages in mixed techniques. Orphaned buildings, expired industrial estates or empty squares intrigue her the most. 'Although I am rarely concerned about the buildings or phenomena themselves. I am concerned with the relationship between light and dark, the contrast between details and the dream image that they generate. Often they are images that at the same time are happy and melancholy. I call it: sad beauty. "
