Conversation piece
In former centuries a coversation piece was sometimes put on the table after dinner in company. The centrepiece itself can initiate a dialogue, naturally about what there is to see, but also, as an invitation to talk about it, and how we talk to one another in this fast digital time in which it is possible to tear some- one down with one emoticon.
What value do we attach to these sym- bols, is it seriously ment?
nowadays we show each other a photo, film, on the phone –
What would be the difference with the centerpiece of former days?
The titel of this conversation piece is: ‘Tout un monde lointain’ 1970.
In response to the composition of Henri Dutilleux, piece for cello and orchestra.
