Wolfgang Ellenrieder usually stages comprehensive spatial concepts in his works, projects and exhibitions. He combines different surfaces in such a way that they do not immediately reveal what they really are: Structural prints that simulate high-quality materials, woodcuts created on the basis of building elements on site or three-dimensional colour objects that refer to existing architecture or fictitiously expand the space. These elements create imaginary pictorial spaces or become exhibition displays themselves. They are places that explore the relationships between painting and space, original and reproduction. The disperate materials of the surfaces serve as a projection surface for individual longings and the desire for real or at least apparent values.
