Nicolas Chardon (1974) belongs to a young generation of French artists such as Yann Sérandour and Pierre Leguillon who is aware of the history of Modernism and the Avant-garde. In relation to what predecessors have created, Chardon develops concepts for paintings and objects that have cause and effect as a basis. His attitude creates work that brings together both logic and playfulness in his work attitude in a striking way.
Nicolas Chardon starts each painting with a simple gesture by stretching a checkered fabric as ready-made and then painting on the white semi-opaque painted canvas a beam or square whose edges follow the wavy lines of the underlying checkered pattern. The result is a combination of origin (the printed matter) and the intention (the logical consequence). For him these are two radical positions that always lead him to the adventurous practice of making, exhibiting and watching.
