‘Design for raw iron fence to maintain distance’ is a sequel to the work I made for the first ‘Confined Challenge’. Each head is captured in a grid, form- ing a mini-society where everyone is at safe distance but at the same time intimately connected. The gestures are more explicit and even unfriendly, with fingers pulling a nose or ear, poking in eyes, mouths or subtly showing a middle finger, making a fist, ... It visualises one’s longing to connect by seeing, smelling, touching one another but also the fear to do so, and the frustration this causes.
