From the series ‘Melankólia’
A part of Special Edition in a diptych with ‘Ágak’ (Branches)
“I love finding beauty in the ordinary. The daily things that surround us are showing a certain life vision when being emphasized.
Two still lifes of everyday objects, in a slightly unusual setting. They might feel familiar, but how often do you actually leave a pair of cut branches on your bed, with the scissors next to them? And is it common to hang a towel in a cupboard to let it dry? The stripe of light on the towel – interrupted by the distance between the towel and the closet – seems magical. The branches on the bed seem serene. But they have been cut and are slowly dying. Or is it perhaps necessary to prune, to get closer to the core, and to let go of certain things that do not serve you?
When seeing the daily with different eyes, a certain ‘beauty of things’ appears, and the images also gain some melancholic and nostalgic facets. Are these just objects, do they have an identity, or do they mirror the photographer’s or the viewer’s state of being? Our mind is projected on the things we see and everything we experience.
For me, this period of time is about closing and starting. Things die and are born. Stillness. The end and also the beginning. Darkness and light, simultaneously happening.”
