"The sculptures, drawings and collages of Hieke Luik (Apeldoorn, 1958) portray a world that passes through her hands. It is her way to get a grip on the course of existence. It starts somewhere and stops again, something precedes it and something comes after it. In the case of Hieke Luik, she senses what the foundation of her work is, she works on what she gets in her hands and resumes what she has let go. Her work is completely created by groping. What she has in mind, she can achieve by making it a tangible image. In fact, Luik does not work to mirror any perception. Her images are literally made by putting something to her hand."
