In After the Storm, Madelon Uljee explores the forces of nature and the moment between disruption and renewal. Leaves are torn from branches and scattered by the wind, while the tree remains, ready for new growth.
Uljee translates this movement into sculptural works made from surplus leather from the high fashion industry. The material’s folds, curves and textures give each leaf its own character. Loose leaves extend beyond the central sculpture, allowing the composition to unfold across the wall.
The series brings together nature’s vulnerability and resilience. The reuse of material echoes this cycle: what is left behind becomes the starting point for something new.
