In In Praise of Shadows, Donald Schenkel builds a quiet composition through subtle transitions of colour and light. Deep blue gradually dissolves into pale, luminous tones before meeting a warm orange glow. Two delicate vertical forms interrupt the otherwise seamless surface, creating balance, depth and a restrained sense of movement.
Painted in oil through many thin layers, the work has an exceptional softness and intensity. Its minimal composition brings calm to a space, while the shifting colours continue to reveal new nuances as the light changes throughout the day.
