In the work of Ellen Kooi, the relation between man and landscape is captured in a way that shows the contrasts and overlaps between the two. The models she uses look either absorbed by their surroundings or alienated. Man and nature interact with each other, evoking an emotion that is visual in both elements of the composition. Using theatrical lights, Kooi turns the ordinary Dutch landscape into a fairy-like setting.
