Video and multi-channel sound installation, 9 mins and 5 secs (on loop)
Chiaro di Luna is a video and sound installation that explores the fragility of our attempts to connect, both with the world around us and with our inner lives. Nature appears as an enormous machine, constantly deciphering the traces of human activity. Beeps and mechanical echoes mingle with birdsong, voices and whispers, creating an intimate yet fragmentary experience for the visitor. All sounds and images are interconnected, forming a network in which nothing stands alone. The natural and the human are constantly interwoven, as if life itself were a code that is continually rewritten, remembered and connected.
The work was created for the exhibition Emerging Exits at the Diogenes Bunker in Arnhem. Inspired by the Enigma machine that stood in one of the rooms there, Chiaro di Luna listens ceaselessly to signals, translating and distorting them, and thus leaving behind a time capsule of sound and memory.
