Joachim Bandau is the German artist well known for two main reasons:
water colors and sculptures - most works are abstract.
Abstract water colors, 'Schwarzaquarelle', consist of up to 30 layers water color, that almost always are clear and transparent - even in black. If the water color is very much deluted almost invisibles layers come into existence; it happens that they almost only visible by the dried lines on the fringes of the painted fields. These fields are painted with quite broad Japanese brushes, and especially in the corners they are very precisely built up. One layer a day – that is dried during the night.
Smaller and giant sculptures are during a long career made in several materials – polyesther, wood, lead, copper brass, iron, also abstract wooden sculptures, totally covered with natural lacquer.
From 1994 different kinds of new works of Bandau were shown in/by
PHŒBUS•Rotterdam, on the Art Rotterdam and other art fairs.
His works are found in many museum collections.
