À propos de Galerie Fontana
Founded in 2011 and located in a former chocolate factory on the Lauriergracht in Amsterdam, Galerie Fontana has grown into a leading space for contemporary art. In April 2025, the gallery expanded its presence with a second venue in Brussels, housed in a beautiful late 19th-century residence in the historic Grand Sablon district — an area renowned for its artistic vibrancy.
Fontana is dedicated to presenting art that critically reflects on the present: works that mirror the complex, and at times harsh, realities of our world while exploring themes of humanity, vulnerability, the environment, and mortality. Embracing a wide range of media — from painting and sculpture to photography, installation, and video — the gallery seeks art that challenges expectations, provokes thought, and invites contemplation.
Rather than adhering to a fixed curatorial doctrine, Fontana presents a carefully balanced program that includes both internationally established artists and emerging talents. What unites them is a shared sensitivity to craft, materiality, and conceptual depth.
A defining element of Fontana’s philosophy is its regional and sustainable approach. By collaborating primarily with artists from the Benelux and France, the gallery reduces the ecological footprint associated with transport and exhibition production, while fostering stronger local networks and creative communities. Fontana’s international character is further reflected in its multilingual team, speaking English, French, German, Dutch, and Italian.
The atmosphere at Galerie Fontana is both inviting and intellectually engaging — a space where aesthetics, experimentation, and dialogue converge. Between the industrial character of its Amsterdam home and the historical elegance of its Brussels location, Fontana offers a platform for art that moves, confronts, and gives meaning to our time.
