Jan Timmers (b. 1997) is a Dutch visual artist based in Utrecht whose work navigates the fragile boundary between perception and memory. Through altered scale, unexpected color, and disorienting composition, his paintings transform familiar fragments into images that feel both intimate and unsettling—like a memory half-remembered or a dream misfiled in waking life.
Timmers studied Fine Art at HKU (Utrecht School of the Arts), where he also completed a degree in Art and Design Education. Additional studies in continental philosophy and aesthetics at Utrecht University inform the conceptual depth of his practice, which draws inspiration from artists like Goya and George Bellows.
His work has been shown in institutions across the Netherlands, including Marres (Maastricht), Kersgallery (Amsterdam), Kunstliefde (Utrecht), and HKU Pastoe. In 2021, he held a solo exhibition at EXboot, De Nijverheid and participated in exhibitions at Kers gallery and in the Singer Laren museum. Timmers has been nominated for several awards, including the Buning Brongers Prize (2024), the Sluijters Prize (2023), and the Dooyewaard Stipendium (2025).
