Daan Julius Koens (Amsterdam, 1994) lives in Rotterdam and is a self-taught artist. Since a young age, he has been greatly interested in creating drawings of dream-like creatures and landscapes. He was particularly inspired by the tropical nature of the former Dutch Antilles, where he grew up and often daydreamed about during primary school.
At the age of 21, Daan decided to attend art school, and while working on his portfolio, he developed a preference for working with oil paint. After three months, he decided to leave the academy and continue on his own path. After a tumultuous period filled with various challenges, he developed a unique style for which he is now known, ranging from realistic portraits to cubist representations.
