Stone lies at the heart of Athar Jaber's oeuvre. From stone, in addition to sculptures, he realises a of performances, conceptual installations, photographs and texts. A sculptor can add material add material when he works in wax or clay while a
stonemason can only remove material. Having spent time in different countries and cities reinforced the sense of belonging, crossing geographical borders. This notion serves as the
framework for his sculptures, in a desire to outline a shared human experience that transcends culture and time.
Athar Jaber's work has been shown in many international contexts with recent exhibitions taking place in France, Germany, the United States, Cuba and Palestine. His work is in important private and public collections including UN Art Collection in Italy, the Barjeel Art Foundation in UAE as well as the National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana, Cuba, the National Museum of Lubumbashi, DRC, the Palestinian Museum in Birzet, Palestine and the SMAK in Ghent. His artworks were also on display at the Triennial in Bruges in 2021. Until 2022, Athar Jaber was associate professor at the RAFA (Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp), as well as 2021, he received his doctorate in Fine Arts at University of Antwerp.
